This funding is for the next three years from April 2023, to help expand our work around awareness, trust and support for the use of patient data in research, across the UK. The funding will allow use MY data to expand its Secretariat, adding a dedicated role to manage our communications and media, therefore expanding our influence, reach across the UK and our work as a trusted patient voice. We will also be able to add a new administrative and business support role. Matt Howard-Murray, Public Involvement Lead for the Cancer Research UK Research Data Strategy: “Patient data can be used to gain insights and save lives, but need to be used efficiently and transparently to have the greatest impact. By working together with use MY data, we can build a stronger, more united voice around the use of patient data and drive forward best practice for public involvement and engagement with data research”. Richard Stephens, Chair of the use MY data Executive Group: “The ability of the UK to utilise patient data for cancer research and innovation depends on having the understanding and trust of patients and of the different publics in our multi-cultural communities. Our role is to promote honest conversations about the benefits of using our data to benefit all of us, the safeguards and good practice around who is using it and what for, and the risks of not using it - or of delaying the use - as well as the expectations around data storage and security”.
